World’s Largest Independent Motorsport Photographic Agency To Be Showcased at Formula Expo
June 15, 2012 – Austin, Texas – Formula Expo, an event in partnership with Circuit of The Americas, today announced it is featuring Sutton Images, the world’s largest independent motorsport photographic agency, in the inaugural Formula Expo weekend June 15-17, 2012. Sutton Images is celebrating another milestone with the number of images now available on www.sutton-images.com website reaching no fewer than 800,000.
Formula Expo is the first public event in the run-up to the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX. Formula Expo offers families and motorsport enthusiasts the opportunity to connect to the race experience, history, technology and prestige of the Grand Prix.
The 800,000th Sutton Image highlights Pastor Maldonado hoisted aloft by Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen on the Spanish Grand Prix podium. The image made the front cover of online weekly motorsport magazine GPWeek.com.
Keith Sutton, Sutton Images' CEO, commented: "Once again I'm thrilled to announce that Sutton Images has reached yet another milestone with a staggering 800,000 images available to view on-line and to download. Thanks are due to our dedicated and highly professional team of award-winning photographers and office-based staff who ensure that the very best photos are available both during and immediately after every Grand Prix. "We are now tantalizingly close to reaching our target of one million on-line images, with plenty more to follow."
The Sutton Images Picture Desk archive was introduced in 1997 at the very beginning of the digital photographic era, offering a handful of downloadable images, which could be accessed after each Grand Prix. Today, www.sutton-images.com offers the most extensive on-line content currently available from any downloadable motor sporting source.
The photographers whose work makes up the Sutton Images' archive pride themselves on being able to offer award-winning illustrations from over fifty years of motorsport. The ever-expanding Sutton Image on-line library encapsulates every aspect of motorsport's flagship category, Formula One, from breathtaking action photos, jubilant celebration images and stunning portraits of the drivers, to detailed technical images of the current cars.
An integral part of www.sutton-images.com is the work of the late David Phipps, a pioneer in his field whose work encompasses the period between 1960 and 1985. Much of David's work has remained unseen until becoming available online, charting a period which shaped the world of motorsport as we know it today. He was a close friend of such greats as Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt and Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda and James Hunt, together with team bosses, engineers and personalities of the time. The sensitive images, which he took of that dramatic period, will endure as a testament to the skill and passion of a man who lived and worked alongside the champions.
“We are delighted Formula Expo attendees will have the opportunity to see the exciting Sutton Images photographic work,” said Ian Weightman, founder and president of Formula Expo. “It is another example of what brings to life the thrill of Formula One.”
